With June Gloom upon Los Angeles, it’s important to have some pick-me-ups that remind us local yocals that summer is still on the way. One of my favorite authors is out with a new book and I thought I’d share the funny. Lisa Lutz has a way with words that makes even the grayest June morning seem bright.
Our journey with the Spellman family begins with The Spellman Files, continues onward with Curse of the Spellmans, then Revenge of the Spellmans, and finally lands us with the most recent publication, The Spellmans Strike Again. It’s a series that needs to be read in order as one debacle follows closely upon the next and to miss what happened at the beginning would surely throw the whole story off.
Meet the Spellmans, just your average San Francisco family who also happens to be private detectives. And you know the saying, the family who spies together…also spies on each other, the neighbors, and maybe even the patrons at the watering hole down the street. The Spellmans aren’t exactly dysfunctional as much as they are upside down and turned around, but so would you be if every time you called your mother she pretended to not know who you are. (You never know who’s listening on the phones these days. Better to deny than acknowledge.)
I won’t give too much more away except that surveillance has never sounded so fun. Lisa Lutz has penned a wonderful series that will chase any gloomy day away. I recommend it with a coke and a smile.
