With the recent imprisonment of American journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee, the unapproved nuclear testing, and the sneaky missile launches, I’m getting the feeling that the little man is getting ready to rumble.
Kim Jong II is the absolute ruler of 24 million people and the 5th strongest army in the world. Last year however, Jong-il disappeared from the public eye for several months after reports of a stroke. Since then he has named his youngest son, Jong-Un as his successor. Many wonder if what’s going on now is due to Il or Un. Others believe that Jong-Un is only a mask for the older generation of gernerals and politicians whose time to pull the strings has come. (Kind of like that nasty little puppet-master Dick Cheney.) Meanwhile however, two American journalists have just been sentenced to prison.
Laura Ling and Euna Lee, who either stumbled over the Chinese/North Korean border while covering a story about the trafficking of N. Korean women, or who were grabbed and abducted by overzealous border guards who crossed into China, have been sentenced to 12 years of hard labor. It doesn’t take a genius to understand that they’re being used as pawns in Jong’s parent-teacher conferences with the United Nations. While Jong continually disregards teacher’s orders, setting off underground atomic <boom!> and launching long-range missiles over the water towards Japan, the UN scrambles to punish him. Now he has hostages because let’s be honest here, 12 years for crimes against the country? I don’t think so.
Here’s a clever little piece about him in case you’d like to read more: Kim Jong-il: Wine, women and bombs
Keep your nose in the air on this one. My gut tells me it’s going to get worse before it gets better.
